'Achieved 40 weaned piglets per sow with Watter'

Peace, cleanliness and regularity are the core values on the farm of Overijssel sow farmer Gert Altena. And this approach is paying off: this year the number of 40 weaned piglets per sow was achieved.

Continuous improvement

Through continuous improvements in barn, genetics and feed, Altena has managed to grow from 33.5 to 40 weaned piglets per sow per year in five years.

In addition to genetics and feed, Altena places great importance on water quality:

"Clean water is crucial to reduce piglet failure rates. Larger litters are only useful if the piglets are also more vital. Cleaning and maintaining the water pipes with chemicals is expensive and inconvenient. In 2015, I therefore invested in a Watter machine."

Assured of optimal water

"I am very happy with the Watter machine. The water is clean and the pipes no longer clog. The pressure stays the same and the germ count is always extremely low. I am assured of optimal water without having labor from it. The investment pays for itself so easily."
