Biofilm easily forms in stagnant water

The function of a buffer tank is to absorb peaks in water use. So a reasonable amount of water is stored in a reservoir, which can be used for cleaning water systems in factories or for drinking at cattle farms. Because the water stands still for a while, bacteria, viruses, yeasts and moulds have a chance to settle and grow. This causes the water to become microbiologically contaminated and biofilm to form. This biofilm forms on the walls in particular and multiplies rapidly, contaminating your water with pathogens. This increases the risk of disease in animals and degradation of products, resulting in lower best before dates and adverse side effects such as contamination, taste and odor.

How do you recognize biofilm in the water?

You can often recognize it by the slimy layer on the walls of the buffer tank, in the pipes where the water flows through and/or at the drinking points of the animals. But sometimes it is not noticeable. The advice is therefore to regularly test your water for germs.

Biofilm control in buffer or break tanks

It is often a silent and almost invisible challenge. And because biofilm spreads through the pipe system, it is very difficult to combat.
